What is PokeUtils?

An unofficial, free Pokemon guide, in Spanish and English: the complete Pokedex —1025 species and 326 forms—, data for moves, abilities, items, natures and types, plus a handful of competitive tools and calculators for building a team.

Where does the data come from?

From PokeAPI, the public REST API that gathers the games' data.

And the competitive sets?

From Smogon's usage statistics, for the OU and VGC formats. It is a snapshot from July 2026: it does not update itself, it gets regenerated by hand when it is due.

PokeAPI does not have everything in Spanish. Where does that text come from?

From the games' official text, gathered from WikiDex, Bulbapedia and pkproject.net. Every entry documents its source right in the code. Eight descriptions have no such backing —the five Revavroom "torque" moves, two Poke Balls with no official text, and one item with a provisional description— and are written by PokeUtils, marked as such.

What about the Spanish names for the Mega Stones from Legends Z-A and Pokemon Champions?

There is no official name yet, so they are worked out by hand following the pattern the series already uses for every other Mega Stone, until Nintendo publishes its own.

Scarlet and Violet sometimes tell a different story about the same Pokemon. Which one wins?

Scarlet's, whenever they differ.

Where do the sprites come from?

They are served from this site itself, not from a third party.

Why can a piece of data be missing or wrong?

Because the games keep changing. The data gets regenerated every so often, and automated checks review that it still adds up, but something can still slip through.

What people ask

These are the questions that come up most when using PokeUtils. The first ones are about the site itself and where its content comes from: what it is, the source of the Pokédex data, where the usage numbers behind the meta sets come from, and who writes the Spanish text the original source does not include.

The rest deal with the edge cases: which name is used when there is no official one yet, which version wins when Scarlet and Violet disagree about a Pokémon, where the sprites are served from, and why a piece of data can still be missing or wrong.
