How the type chart works
Pick one or two of the 18 types and the chart works out how every attacking type affects a Pokémon with that combination. On defence it multiplies both types together, so it separates 4x weaknesses from 2x ones and ¼x resistances from ½x ones, with immunities listed on their own. Take a Grass and Flying Pokémon: Ice deals 4x damage to it, and Ground does nothing at all.
The attack tab looks the other way: for each opposing type it takes the best multiplier of your two types, which is the coverage of the moves that share your Pokémon's types. It shows which types you hit for 2x, which for ½x and which take no damage. That makes it easy to see which types to steer clear of and which coverage move your Pokémon is still missing.
